We have a ripper of a party here for you, straight double headline affair; Byron the Aquarius (Sound Signature, Wild Oats, Detroit) & Sassy J, CH (Patchwork)

All in the wonderful Warehouse space that is Micks garage, through some Funktion 1 speakers.

-----------------------------------------

Byron the Aquarius

-----------------------------------------

Headliner (in alphabetical order)- Man is blowing up. Dekmantel, Boiler Room and blasting around Europe. As a trained jazz pianist, expect to hear some wicked keys. Byron’s sound is characterised by live instrumentation bursting with soul and melody, his music has been released on Detroit staples Sound Signature and Wild Oats. Last year, he left USA borders for the first time, touring Europe and Australia.

Born Byron Blaylock in Birmingham, Alabama and raised on records by jazz greats like Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, he was taught piano from an early age by an old band mate of Duke Ellington. He went on to study jazz at college in Jacksonville before dropping a collaborative EP with French beats producer Onra in 2007 which lead to work with one of the LA scene’s biggest names: Flying Lotus. That was followed by a move to Detroit to make mainstream rap with D12 producer Denaun Porter before Blaylock discovered house music in the less-traditional setting of Atlanta.

It's been a nomadic journey both physically and musically, and for a lot of artists, that kind of musical growth spans a lifetime. For Blaylock, it all happened before he turned 28.

Come check the vibe, it’s strong and vibey as flip.

-----------------------------------------

Sassy J

-----------------------------------------

Headliner 2 (in alphabetical order) - Switzerland’s Sassy J has many talents: besides being an excellent DJ playing everything from house, techno, and disco to cosmic jazz and soul, she also makes clothes, designs flyers and record sleeves, and even teaches part-time. Judith was constantly surrounded by music growing up in Bern, with her mother hosting a radio show and her father a jazz musician, but it was in her teenage years that she became immersed in the music scene that took her onto the path she’s on now. After hearing about London clubnight Co-Op, which ran at the iconic Plastic People venue and helped nurture talents like Floating Points, she started making semi-regular trips to the UK capital in order to immerse herself in the city’s broken beat scene. She took many of these ideas back to her own clubnight, Patchwork, back in Switzerland, and applied some of its lessons to her own DJ sets.

She has been touring non stop for a while and getting her to this show has been super tough as she is so in demand. Honestly if you want to dance and move your hips catch her set.

-----------------------------------------

Ishmael Ensemble (Live)

-----------------------------------------

If you want to see some real emotive music before we all start flying around to the sound of Detroit and Switzerland this is not to be missed. Dude, it’s like a six piece jazz, soul, house band in a warehouse, this doesn’t happen every day.

-----------------------------------------

Kontroversi (Live)

-----------------------------------------

Regulars at Meadows in the Mountains and Secret Garden Party, these gents are providing intergalactic bassline funk from alternate universes.

Imagine Prince, Parliament, New Order and Jamiroquai taking a road trip across the galaxy in a ’59 Cadillac and you’re halfway there…

Kontroversi are an electro-funk duo from Cambridge, consisting of “Mr Margaret Scratcher” (Mark Sutton) on keyboards, synthesizers and drum machines, and “Lionclub” (Leonardo Robarts) on guitar and lead vocals.

The band have been travelling the U.K supporting DJ Yoda on his Stranger Things tour and are set to release their debut E.P later this year with Bristol based label Ghetto Funk. Your man DJ Yoda going as far to say “Kontroversi were the most awesome support band…you have got to see them to believe them”.

Actually fun.

-----------------------------------------

Residents (Fade to Zaire, Fall Up, Nord, Maze London, Blackbox, Heels and Souls)

-----------------------------------------

Proper music for the dancers. Forget what you heard.

-----------------------------------------

Also, for all the dancers, you’ll be doing your bit for the community as all profits will be donated to the charity MIND, who’s mission is to not give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.
